An Open Letter to the Art & Entertainment Community

Since 2007, Active Entertainment has served as a platform for various disciplines of Art, Music, Dance, Entertainment and Fashion. Our mission to connect Artists & The Community through events and entertainment services has always been an interactive and evolving learning experience based on our engagement and feedback with those who participate in our events. As that mission continues into 2020, we’d like to introduce the new Active Entertainment Code of Conduct. www.ActivateTheArts.com/Safe-Space
It is a new policy of Active Entertainment that any Executive Director, Staff, or Talent of Active Entertainment must sign and adhere to the new Code of Conduct to participate in our events.
As the Founder & Executive Director of Active Entertainment I would like to acknowledge that the entertainment community, particularly fashion, is vulnerable to predatory and discriminatory behavior. This may come in the form of sexual harassment, prejudice or other practices that normalize devaluing another person. Our Safe Space Proclamation and Code of Conduct not only underscores our dedication to Safe Space practices, but defines expected and inappropriate behaviors, provides reporting and grievance guidelines, and outlines the consequences and scope of the Agreement to provide transparency to the community about our operating procedures as a Company. We hope this contributes to a more accountable Art & Entertainment community as a whole.
The Code of Conduct is and always will be a work in progress, and we welcome your feedback. If you have something you’d like to contribute please submit your review to [email protected]. We will gladly take it into consideration and work to implement any practices or policies that assist in building a better community.

Major renovations to the Active Entertainment are still underway. When we’re done, we’ll be throwing a website release party to celebrate! Feel free to come back for updates or sign up now for our Guest List to receive updates.
So... what’s going on, exactly?
The website is just one of many changes coming to Active Entertainment. For over a decade Artists have participated in our events and creative projects. Hundreds, if not thousands, of talents spread across the production of 11+ years worth of variety shows, fashion shows, club nights, concerts and private parties have participated in our events. Talent have ranged in every identity, demographic, genre, discipline & creative direction. We have always been focused on producing events that benefit the artists that participate in them, and we've always practiced talent-first production policies. With the completion of over a decade of events we've decided to take time away from our ongoing event commitments to take an objective look at our infrastructure, sustainability and community impact. In 2018, we discontinued our residency with the 501c3 non-profit Chance Fashion and cancelled both our annual AMDEF & quarterly Performers Anonymous events until further notice. Art on the Rocks has continued every 1st Thursday at The Bar Shoppe of Trinity Nightclub thanks to the support of an amazing resident staff team.
Throughout 2019 we’ve been identifying areas for improvement, doing research, implementing feedback and building critical operation tools for The Company. This includes, but is not limited to:
Updating the Active Entertainment Operating Agreement, Subscriber Agreement and Investor Agreement
Updating Client Services
Updating Contracts for Staff &Talent
Sourcing & Implementing Critical Database & Technology Tools
Updating Event Policies & Procedures
Restructuring the Active Entertainment Brand
As an advocate of community, we believe in the interests of transparency and accountability for ourselves and those who participate in our events. It is important to myself and those behind the scenes at Active Entertainment that all those who support us understand that we are an Open Source Community operated in large by volunteers who are passionate about supporting local arts & entertainment. We encourage anybody who wants to make a difference to volunteer, send feedback, or offer services that can be shared within the community, and we want to be transparent about who we are and what we’re doing.

But what about AMDEF?
Before we bring back AMDEF, Performers Anonymous or any old or new recurring events, we’re dedicated to ensuring all top-to-bottom functions of The Company are brought to new standards of quality and efficiency. We’re not setting a date on that goal either, because doing it right is more important than doing it fast. In the meanwhile we’ll be focusing on paid clients, special focus events and continued updates to our infrastructure.

As a special focus sales event for custom luxury designers, we’ll be hosting a runway show in the Top of the Town Room of Hotel Sorrento November 9th, 8PM-12AM. The Winter Wonderland Fashion Show will be an intimate runway experience for elite buyers of custom luxury apparel overlooking the Seattle skyline. Featuring architecture of the Italian Renaissance, the Top of the Town Room at Hotel Sorrento will be transformed into an enchanting winter wonderland to present spellbinding handmade creations by independent high-fashion designers.
